10 classic movies that are perfect for a rainy day

“April showers bring May flowers” or so the saying goes. Man does that seem to be true for us Toronotians this year. It’s only April 6th and I swear it feels like it’s been raining for centuries. But, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: rainy days are the absolute best. Staying inside, putting on fuzzy slippers, snuggling under a cozy blanket with a hot cup of tea (yes I’m 22 going on 82)  and hitting play on a favourite movie.

I love movies, especially movies that make me laugh, cry, think and evoke a sense of nostalgia. And what better time is there to get all existential and nostalgic watching a great flick than during this stormy weather??

So cozy up and buckle down, here’s 10 classic movies that are perfect for a rainy day like today:

1. The Breakfast Club

Perhaps the most classic portrayal of high school stereotyping. Watching the Princess, the Jock, the Brain, the Basket Case, and the Psycho in their day of detention and self-discovery will never disappoint.

2. The Princess Bride

Never. Gets. Old. NEVER.

3. Dirty Dancing

Travel back to the summer of 1963 with Baby and fall in love with Patrick Swayze for the 1 billionth time 🙂

4. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

If anyone can inspire you to blow off all your responsibilities and take a “me” day its the Ferris Bueller. Trust me.

5. Stand By Me

Ugh, my favourite movie of all time. This classic coming-of-age story will make you  feel all of the feelings – young River Phoenix is everything.

6. Moulin Rouge

Nothing like a Shakespeare classic ft. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor on a rainy day am I right?

7. The Goonies

HEY YOU GUUUYSSSSSS this will never not be an amazing feel good flick  🙂

8. The Devil Wears Prada

Probably Meryl Streeps best performance of all time and like its f*cking MERLY STREEP.

9. Little Miss Sunshine

Laugh, cry and reflect with this amazingly dysfunctional family.

10. 10 Things I Hate About You

And finally my all time favourite rainy day movie. No description necessary. If you tell me you don’t like this movie I simply won’t believe you 🙂

Don’t let the rain put you into a rut. Instead, use it to your advantage. Catch up on some much needed time for yourself. Enjoy the sound of pattering rain on your roof, and the story playing out on the screen in front of you. Sometimes (always), lazy, rainy days are the best days.
